After many long years with the Schrader Lab, PhD student Suzan Kors successfully defended her PhD thesis with minor corrections. Suzan now moves to the EMBL and University of Heidelberg, Germany. We wish her all the best for the future!
Lab PhD students Beatriz Silva, Rechal Kumar and Suzan Kors worked with other PhD/PGR students on a handbook for organizing conferences, available on the Doctoral College Researcher Development website, for PGR across the UK. (Online since Sept 2022)
Suzan Kors, a PhD student in the Schrader lab, was awarded the Peroxisome Research Award at the biannual 8th Open European Peroxisome Meeting (OEPM), Sept. 22-24, 2022 in Aveiro, Portugal for the best paper published between Sept. 2020/2022.
The winning paper, Kors S, Hacker C, Bolton C, Maier R, Reimann L, Kitchener EJA, Warscheid B, Costello JL, Schrader M. (2022) Regulating peroxisome-ER contacts via the ACBD5-VAPB tether by FFAT motif phosphorylation and GSK3β in the Journal of Cell Biology, presents the first comprehensive molecular mechanism for the regulation of membrane contact sites between peroxisomes and the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and has implications for the regulation of other organelle contacts. Suzan is a PhD student within the GW4 BIOMED MRC DTP, awarded to the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, and Exeter from the Medical Research Council (MRC)/UKRI. |
