Tina Schrader attended “The Fundamentals of Cell Culture: Key Principles and Practice" Training Course held at the ECACC laboratories at the Public Health England site in Porton Down, Salisbury, Oct. 15th-18th, 2019. The course included theory and practice, from culture initiation from frozen vials, to novel 3D cell culture strategies. Tina was interviewed about her experiences on the course, what she learnt, and how she can apply the acquired knowledge to future research - "It affirmed the techniques that I currently use and I can now confidently teach my students and colleagues. I have also learnt about new techniques and developments, like the 3D cultures." Click here for the interview. Tina Schrader at the cell culture course (PHE Culture Collections)
Beatriz Silva and Suzan Kors, both PhD fellows in Michael Schrader’s group, were selected to participate in the EMBO Course “Current Methods in Cell Biology”, from Sept. 8th-17th 2019, at EMBL Heidelberg, Germany. The course included a theoretical and practical approach, focused on recent advances in fluorescent probe development, novel techniques in biochemistry and molecular biology (e.g. digital PCR), advanced microscopy (e.g. light-sheet and super-resolution microscopy) and image-analysis (e.g. Ilastik). There was a poster presentation and an one minute project-talk, where the attendees had the opportunity to talk about their work, allowing to exchange ideas.
The scientific journal Traffic celebrates its 20th anniversary and because of this, listed some of their most cited and influential research articles of the past 20 years. One of the three chosen articles for 2018 is our paper on MIRO1, in which we show the role of MIRO1 in peroxisome motility and membrane dynamics! |
