Michael Schrader and his team participated in the annual Zellweger UK (ZUK) family meeting/conference in Okehampton (Sept. 6-8). The ZUK charity supports families and patients suffering from severe organelle (peroxisome)-based disorders such as Zellweger Spectrum Disorders. The event brings together families/carers and patients as well as international scientists and physicians. The charity is contributing very successfully to our education/teaching activities in Biosciences (Module BIO3086 “Cell Biology of Disease”) with a patient-centred session. Michael and his team are engaged in outreach activities/widening participation and prepared joint publications to increase awareness of Zellweger Spectrum Disorders and the need for research and treatment options.
Congratulation to Yuki Aizawa (St James School, Exeter), a former work experience placement student in the lab, and to Anna Schrader (St James School, Exeter). They both achieved a high number of 7-9 grades in their GCSE results (Yuki = 9; Anna = 8). Good luck in college! Left: Anna Schrader (Devon Live)
Sophie Moul, a researcher from the University of Leeds, visited our lab in August to perform experiments on protein targeting to organelles in mammalian cells.
It was a pleasure to show her the lab and exchange experiences and research ideas. |
